A 30-year-old Carson City man was arrested early Wednesday morning on suspicion of driving under the influence and going too fast for conditions, among other misdemeanor charges.

According to the arrest report a deputy patrolling the area of Koontz Lane in Carson City spotted a green Geo traveling at a high rate of speed shortly before 2 a.m. The back of the vehicle was fish tailing and the tires, spinning.

The deputy followed the vehicle up to the intersection of Koontz Lane and Silver Sage Drive. The roads were covered in snow and icy. Once at the intersection, the car didn't stop at the stop sign and continued through at a high rate of speed, the arrest report states. The officer turned on his lights and sirens and saw the vehicle swerve into an oncoming lane and then spin-out about three times before coming to a stop west of Baker Drive, the report states.

The driver was the sole occupant in the vehicle. Officers could smell a strong odor of alcohol coming from his breath. His eyes were watery and speech, slurred. He was placed under arrest for driving too fast for conditions, failure to stop, careless driving and failure to maintain lanes.

Based on the man's driving and symptoms of him being under the influence, the officer attempted to do a series of standardized field sobriety tests at the detention ccenter. However, the officer was unsuccessful because the man became uncooperative to the point where jail staff intervened and physically escorted him into a safety cell.

At around 3 a.m. officers contacted the on-call judge and the district attorney to obtain a search warrant to test the man's blood for alcohol. The warrant was granted. At 3:41 a.m., two samples of blood were taken and the man was booked for DUI and the listed misdemeanor charges. Bail: $1,690.
