Gibson, who has been in law enforcement for 16 years, 13 of those assigned to the patrol division in the Carson CIty Sheriff's Office, named retiring Nevada State Trooper Michael “Sean” Giurlani as his running mate for Undersheriff.)
New sheriff, new perspective
Today, I am excited to announce my bid to be the next Sheriff of Carson City. I made the decision to enter the race because I strongly believe we need new leadership and new perspective in the Sheriff’s Office. I appreciate the encouragement I have received from so many people and I will repay that confidence by working hard to become a New Sheriff with New Perspectives.
I have lived in the Carson City Community since 1977. I am married to my beautiful wife Natasha and we have two amazing children. The care and concern I have for our community is shared by my identical twin brother who is also a deputy sheriff and my oldest sister who is a 911 dispatch supervisor. I enjoy playing softball, restoring automobiles, and spending time with my family.
As a Carson City native I am vested in our community. I care about the quality of life we all have today, as well as for our future generations. Making our city a safe and prosperous place to live is what I will work for each and every day.
I have been in law enforcement for 16 years with 13 of those years assigned to the patrol division in Carson City. My career has been extremely successful and expands on many fronts. I have extensive training and experience in many areas including, field training officer, narcotics detective, advanced FBI SWAT school, SWAT team leader, SWAT management-leadership, officer survival instructor, active shooter instructor and association president. As well as extensive management training to include, labor relations, management relations, mediation-arbitration school, basic leadership, and first line supervisor training. I possess Nevada POST Category I and III certifications. This vast training and experience illustrates my readiness to lead Carson City as its next Sheriff.
I have selected retiring Nevada State Trooper Michael “Sean” Giurlani to be Carson City’s next Undersheriff. Giurlani is a Carson City native and is retiring from the Nevada Highway Patrol on December 3, 2013. Giurlani comes to the office with 25 years of experience and an unmatched passion for law enforcement and community togetherness. Giurlani is one of the highest decorated Troopers in all of Nevada. Throughout his career he has been awarded the Gold Medal of Valor, the Silver Medal of Valor, a Meritorious Service Medal, a Life Saving Medal, and recognized as 2007 Trooper of the year.
My personal vision:
• To provide professional law enforcement service, one person, one neighborhood and one business at a time.
My personal mission statement:
Department:
• Focus on a higher quality of police work rather than quantity.
• Proactively recruit the finest employees to provide excellent service with professionalism.
• Serve the community with compassion and commitment, giving our strength to those who are most vulnerable.
• I am committed to providing our community with an administration that has integrity, character and loyalty to both the public and sheriff’s office employees.
• I will have an administration that is highly trained in budget management and has defined skills in leadership, benefitting both the community and the department.
Community:
• Every resident is a part of our community, and is entitled to ownership in the community.
• Law enforcement will be an avenue for positive change.
• I will develop and implement a special unit (Sheriff’s Community Youth Unit).
• I will have an unmatched commitment to eradicating drugs and gangs in our community.
• Bringing the community together, contributing every day, now we see that our responsibility and our potential for good – is even larger.
Trooper Giurlani and I have 41 years of combined law enforcement knowledge and experience. We intend to put this knowledge and experience to work for the citizens of Carson City and we look forward to the opportunity to serve as the next Sheriff and Undersheriff.
