Continuing its 122-year national tradition, Salvation Army of Carson City launched its Red Kettle fundraising campaign Monday with bells ringing at 15 local retailers, said Carson City Corps Lt. Mark Cyr. Another 10 sites will be added by the end of this week to make a total of 25 Red Kettle bell ringers.

A well recognized Christmas tradition, The Salvation Army has relied on their annual Red Kettle Campaign since 1891. Locally the pennies, nickels, dimes, quarters, bills and checks collected in the Red Kettles helps the Carson City Salvation Army serve more than 17,000 local individuals in need each year with food, shelter, clothing, Christmas toys, utilities assistance, child care and Summer Camp.

In the photo is Wayne Thorley representing the Legislative Counsel Bureau Employees Charity Fund who put a $400 check into the red kettle.
