Carson City Health and Human Services is pleased to announce the appointment of Cindy Hannah as the manager of Carson City Animal Services. Hannah has been employed at Carson City Health and Human Services for 3 years and served as the manager of the Chronic Disease Prevention and Health Promotion Division of the Health Department prior to taking the position at Animal Services.
When asked what she would most like to accomplish in her new role, Hannah was quick to cite re-establishing relationships with community partners as one of her top priorities. “The most successful Animal Services agencies I have seen have a strong relationship with their non-profit partners,” she said.
The already-experienced manager is ready to jump into her new position. She brings a wide range of ideas to work with the Animal Services’ staff to move forward with a level of quality and compassion that exceeds the community’s expectations. Said Hannah, “After recent events and seeing the community’s frustration level, I feel I can step in and start helping with the healing process.”
As a dog lover who has owned and fostered several rescue dogs, Hannah has a vision to expand the foster program to enhance the adoptability of animals that come into the shelter to get them ready for their forever homes. Additionally, she will utilize a study conducted in 2010 at the shelter by the Humane Society of the United States as a framework for the future of the animal shelter.
Nicki Aaker, Director of Carson City Health and Human Services, which oversees the Animal Services Division, is confident that Hannah will be a good fit for the position. “I am excited for the positive changes that can and will take place at Carson City Animal Services. I think Cindy’s management experience and style will be a great asset to Animal Services.”
Big changes are in the works for Animal Services. A new Animal Code was adopted in May and further revisions will be read at the next Board of Supervisors meeting. Additionally, plans are in the works for a new and improved animal shelter to house our community’s homeless pets. Hannah’s first day as the new Animal Services Manager will be Monday, December 2.
