A Carson City man has admitted to discharging a firearm into the air Thursday night in the 3400 block of South Carson Street. He faces two misdemeanor weapon charges.

According to the arrest report, deputies responded to the address at 8:45 p.m. after a report of a male shooting a firearm within a residential area.

While responding to the area, dispatch advised a white male adult with a bald head was discharging a firearm at another man. Dispatch further advised the reporting party heard possibly two firearm discharges coming from the area.

Upon arrival officers issued commands for the occupants inside the residence to exit with their hands up. Approximately 20 minutes elapsed with deputies continuing to issue commands to the occupants of the house.

The door opened and the suspect walked outside with his hands in the air. He was detained and interviewed. Deputies entered the residence and detained the other man, who was subsequently taken by Care Flight for a non gun-related injury.

After securing the residence, officers spoke with the suspect who said he was in trouble. He said he fired a handgun off of his front porch into the air. He told officers that the two had been partying earlier.

While walking with the suspect, officers could smell a strong odor of alcoholic beverage coming from the man. He consented to a preliminary breath test which registered a .261. The man also gave officers consent to search the home where they recovered a handgun and a rifle. Also located was a .40 caliber brass casing near the front door.

The man was arrested and taken into custody. He faces misdmeanor charges of possessing a firearm while intoxicated and discharging a firearm in a residential area. Bail: $1,774.
