The women’s organization from The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints and women from the Salvation Army, joined their efforts to assemble personal care kits for those in need.

“Our goal is to build 100 care kits and deliver them to the Dew-drop Inn, the Salvation Army, and the F.I.S.H. organizations here in Carson City,” said Caresse Williams, Humanitarian Specialist for the Latter-day Saints and organizer of the event.

Members of the two organizations donated many of the needed items, with less than $120 spent on supplies. “A little package to help show God’s love to someone who needs to know others care,” said Shari Bertholf, Community Care Ministries Secretary from Carson City Salvation Army Corps.

The kits are handmade from a large hot pad, Ziploc baggies, and a button to tie it all together. The kit is stuffed with personal care items like a mini-toothbrush, toothpaste, Band-Aids, Tylenol tablets, mini sewing kit, telephone numbers to community help organizations, spiritual help cards, and other items.

Beth Tryon, President of the Relief Society women’s organization for the Latter-day Saints local ward organization said, “It’s great to see the women from two different organizations gather in sisterhood to help others in our community.”

This is the second time the two groups have gathered to provide service to others. The first time the women made much needed baby quilts, reported Williams.

Over 25 women combined their efforts to build the care kits in hopes to share the love of God in the form of an act of kindness. When asked if they would be getting together again, a unanimous, and hearty, “YES, we hope so,” said Bertholf and Tryon.
