Virginia City knows how to throw a parade. Monday's time-honored tradition down C Street was among the best as thousands gathered, watched and cheered the American worker during the annual Labor Day event.

There were 21 labor unions represented along C Street Monday, with about 300 local workers and their families participating as well as notable, numerous union retirees.

“Unions from all over Nevada representing over 200,000 members celebrated Labor Day in Historic Virginia City," said Danny Thompson, executive secretary-treasure with the Nevada AFL-CIO. "We are proud to be a part of this Nevada tradition and that all workers remember how Labor Day was first instituted. Thank you to Storey County for continuing to recognize the History of Nevada workers."

And it wouldn't be a Virginia City parade without Civil War re-enactments on the street. Close to 100 people dressed in period costume including the lawmen representing Tombstone Earp Bros.

The parade also brought Nevada Gov. Brian Sandoval for the time-honored tradition.
