Gusty winds are expected tonight into Wednesday as a cold front moves into the region. Light rain is expected by Wednesday for Carson City, with snow in the higher elevations above Lake Tahoe, according to the National Weather Service in Reno.

Wind gusts of up to 40 mph are possible tonight across the region as the storm system pushes through. Winds from the west to southwest will pick up again Wednesday morning, from 20 to 30 mph with gusts to 50 mph in wind prone areas. A Wind Advisory has been issued from 8 a.m. to 11 p.m. on Wednesday.

For the Lake Tahoe area, rain and up to 6 inches of snowfall is expected in the higher elevations above 7,000 feet, with the heaviest in the morning, the weather service reports. Snow is not expected at lake level. Light rain is possible for Carson City and the Western Nevada valleys.

Mild weather will return to the region on Thursday as the system moves to the east.
