The Carson City Sheriff’s Office invites the general public and press to a conference on Thursday that will address accidents and fatalities on Highway 50.

The conference is at 1 p.m. and is being sponsored by the Gold Dust Hotel Casino. Led by the Nevada Department of Public Safety, the public and press will have the opportunity to hear perspectives from the sheriffs of Carson City, Lyon, and Churchill counties, the Nevada Department of Public Safety and Department of Transportation, Office of Traffic Management and more. It will provide residents to learn firsthand exactly what is being done about the challenge of making Highway 50 the Safest Highway to travel.

Carson City Sheriff Ken Furlong will be present with Mayor Bob Crowell and invited guest Natasha Gibson. On April 22, 2011, Natasha lost her two children, Alexis and Coltan, following a multiple car accident near the Virginia City turn-off.

While Alexis (8 years old) and Colton (3 years old) may represent our youngest, all of those who have been killed or severely injured on this highway leave families devastated. To Natasha, and all of the mothers who have lost their children of any age, please join with the Carson City Sheriff’s Office, Nevada Department of Public Safety, and many other agencies, as we proclaim enough is enough, said Sheriff Furlong.

The conference begins at 1 p.m. at the Gold Dust West northeast parking lot.
