A vehicle chase that began in Douglas County ended on the Carson City I-580 freeway Sunday night with male suspect being flown by Care Flight after the vehicle he was driving crashed into the median.
According to Carson City Sheriff Ken Furlong, deputies and the Nevada Highway Patrol were pursuing the vehicle after Douglas County authorities alerted them to the chase that crossed the county line at around 8:45 p.m.
The vehicle went onto Carson Street. At around the area of Lowe's NHP troopers put down strip spikes that resulted in at least one tire being blown, said Furlong. The pursuit continued into the northbound lane of the freeway just off of the Fairview ramp.
The man driving the vehicle didn't speed and used turn signals during the pursuit, Furlong said.
"As far as driving, aside from the pursuit, he was compliant. He wasn't speeding and used his signals," said Furlong.
The vehicle left a trail of sparks, presumably from the blown tire, before it crashed into a median barrier. Furlong said it was unclear if the man was attempting to turn around in the middle of the pursuit or if he lost control and crashed. The crash itself didn't appear to result in major traumatic injuries to the man.
At the time of the pursuit authorities were informed the man may have been under the influence of prescription medication. Furlong said it was too early to tell why the man wouldn't pull over or if he was under the influence.
The man was unresponsive but breathing at the time of evaluation by the Carson City Fire Department. He was taken to the Carson City Airport and flown to Renown Medical Center in Reno.
