Tickets are now on sale for a special performance from Roy Rogers and the Delta Rhythm Kings, Saturday August 3 at 7:30 p.m. at the Bob Boldrick Theatre in the Carson City Community Center located at 851 E. William Street.
This high energy concert by Rogers, award winning virtuoso blues/rock slide guitarist, and his band is a benefit for the efforts of the Comstock Residents Association to preserve and protect the Virginia City National Historic Landmark and its historic communities of Gold Hill, Silver City, Dayton and Virginia City, threatened by irresponsible ‘open pit’ surface mining within the Landmark.
All proceeds will support the CRA’s all-volunteer efforts and the “Jazz & Beyond Carson City Music Festival.” The concert is a kick-off event for the two-week long festival and one dollar from each ticket sold will support festival activities.
Tickets are $26 and available online at www.carsoncity.activitytickets.com or at these traditional outlets now:
• The Bead Store, 2188 East William St, Carson City NV 89701, 775-883-8111
• Sundance Books and Music, 121 California Ave, Reno NV 89509, 775-786-1188
• Recycled Records, 822 South Virginia, Reno, NV 89501, 775-826-4119
There are two opening acts. Local legend ‘Lonesome’ Tom Ward will perform his very original compositions in the lobby as concert goers arrive at the venue, and Ignition: a tribute to the incendiary guitars of a generation, a Reno based power-trio that focuses on legendary blues/rock guitarists such as Jimi Hendrix, Eric Clapton, Jimi Page, Jeff Beck and Stevie Ray Vaughn will open the show from the stage.
ROY ROGERS and the Delta Rhythm Kings, www.roy-rogers.com A Blues slide master and his red hot band. Call him a wizard, a supernatural sliding wonder, Roy Rogers may be the most-skilled, bottleneck slide guitar player in the world. With dazzling virtuosity, Roy has earned a reputation for sensational live performances having electrified audiences from the Montreux Jazz Festival to his years of touring with John Lee Hooker's Coast to Coast Blues Band. Widely recognized as a blues innovator, Roy has been nominated for multiple Grammy Awards as well as two W.C. Handy Awards. Rolling Stone magazine said, "Roy Rogers is an exceptionally articulate slide guitarist, whether he's scorching Robert Johnson's 'Ramblin' Blues' or taking a lovely, lyrical journey...or rockin' it out. One of the rare guitar heroes who values feeling over flash."
As part of his 8 Grammy nominations as producer and performer, Roy has become an internationally acclaimed producer of recordings for John Lee Hooker to Ramblin' Jack Elliott. He has received numerous accolades for his songwriting and his work on movie soundtracks and television. Roy’s recent collaboration with the late Ray Manzarek, The Doors keyboardist, titled “Translucent Blues,“ debuted #6 on the Billboard charts, and reached #1 on the American Roots Rock Chart in 2011.
As a recording artist, as well as a producer and composer, Rogers has recorded with Carlos Santana, Bonnie Raitt, Linda Ronstadt, Steve Miller, Sammy Hagar and a slew of other great artists. He has been touring worldwide since 1982 and has performed in some of the world’s most prestigious festivals.
