Hey all you budding filmmakers out there, Carson City Access Television, the Brewery Arts Center and Digital Arts Factory have launched a short film competition and are inviting Carson City residents of all ages to participate as teams.
The week-long City Wide Short Film Competition runs from noon August 9 to noon August 16. Registration is required by August 7. It is free to enter and participate.
How it works is this: Filmmaking teams will be given a couple phrases or items by Access TV that must be used in the film. These key references, to be announced Friday, August 9, ensures teams are all on a level playing field and avoids them getting an early start on their script or filming. Go here for rules, registration and details.
Carson City Access Television urges those interested to get their teams together now and register by 5 p.m. Wednesday, August 7. By coordinating teams early, participants can get a grasp on what is needed for the production, who will be writing the script, acting, filming and editing.
And then the competition begins. Participants will have one full week to write the script, film the actors, edit and get it to Carson City Access Television. Anything goes really, as long as it fits within the genre (drama, comedy, action, etc) that your team chooses on the first day and, the key reference ingredients get used.
The hope is to get as many groups involved in a friendly competition with small prizes for the first year and then grow this competition every year, said Public Access TV Digital Arts Manager Darla Bayer.
