UPDATE 4:21PM July 4: The Tarnahan Fire burning southeast of Carson City is 10 percent contained. No structures are threatened at this time. After GPS of the area was made, the fire was downsized at noon to 25 acres, according to Sierra Front Interagency Dispatch Center. Sierra Front had reported about 100 acres early this morning but re-adjusted the figure based on an overhead GPS reading.
Wind conditions are light.

UPDATE 10AM JULY 4: The Tarnahan Hill Fire southeast of Carson City in the Brunswick Canyon area has grown to about 100 acres, according to Sierra Front Interagency Dispatch Center. No structures are threatened at this time. Helicopters will be used today on the fire, said Elayn Briggs, spokeswoman for Sierra Front. At least two hand crews are fighting the fire, burning in pinyon brush on BLM land.
Briggs said people need to stay clear of the fire area, noting that some have taken ATVs up into the fire area, getting stuck.
"The public needs to stay out of the area, for their safety and the safety of the firefighters," Briggs said.

UPDATE 10:38PM: The fire burning southeast of Carson City is estimated to be around 75 acres with calm winds which are helping firefighters, said Stacey Belt, deputy emergency manager for Carson City. No structures are threatened at this time.

UPDATE 9PM: The fire burning southeast of Carson City has grown to between 50 to 70 acres, according to Stacey Belt, deputy emergency manager for Carson City. No structures are threatened at this time.
The fire is burning in medium to heavy brush and moving in a northeasterly direction. It is believed to have been caused by lightning and continues to emit heavy smoke, Belt said.
The terrain is inaccessible for trucks to get into so hand crews from NDF, the BLM and Carson City are making their way up the hillside to fight the fire. Sierra Front reports helicopter have done some water drops already.

UPDATE 8:30PM: Sierra Front Interagency Dispatch reports that just one fire is burning in the Carson City region. It is called the Tarnahan Fire and it is located in the hills southeast of Carson City in the Pine Nut Mountain range. So far firefighters report that 10 to 15 acres have burned.
No structures are threatened at this time. The fire, which created a plume of smoke, is believed to be caused by a lightning strike, said Sierra Front spokeswoman Elayn Briggs.
Fighting the fire are two hand crews, a couple of engines and a helicopter crew.
There were reports of multiple fires coming from the same direction, Briggs explained, and all of them seem to lead to the Tarnahan fire, she said.
Firefighters are investigating various calls, but for now it appears that what many people thought were two other fires, may just be the one, she said. No other fire has been confirmed at this time.
UPDATE 7:538PM: Carson City Fire trucks were called at 7:23 p.m. to a brush fire off of Silver Saddle Road in Carson City. A fire is also reported burning in the Mexican Dam area, said to to be 1 to 2 acres off of Sierra Vista, according to firefighters via dispatch.
Firefighters had been called to a south Carson Street but turned around after seeing that it wasn't burning.

Multiple Carson City fire engines were called Wednesday night to a brush fire burning in the area of Prison Hill. The report came into Carson City dispatch at 7:08 p.m. amid several lightning strikes in the area.
Several calls to dispatch report the fire burning north of the water tower. The fire, said to be small, was spotted about a quarter mile past Damon Road, according to spotters who called Carson City dispatch. The area is experiencing a downpour, which is welcomed news.
