New York Times bestselling author Ellen Hopkins will lead a Meet the Authors dessert and wine reception in Carson City on Friday, June 14 from 6:30 to 9 pm in the Carson Nugget Community Hall in the Aspen Building on the Western Nevada College Campus.
Hopkins, who writes both adult and young adult fiction, is a long-time Washoe Valley resident. Her work includes Triangles, Collateral, Crank and several additional novels. She will be joined at the reception by some of her favorite authors who will read from their works. They include: Jim Averbeck, Cinda Chima, Kristin Clark, Josh Galarza, Cindie Gedes, Rita Geil, Cynthea Liu, Krista Lukas, Marilee Swirczek and Suzanne Morgan Williams. There will be books for sale by the authors, who will be happy to sign them.
The $10 ticket price, as well as a silent auction of signed books by some of today’s top authors, benefits the Ventana Sierra Youth Housing and Resource Initiative. This local nonprofit was founded by Hopkins to help youth-in-need into safe housing and working toward career goals through higher education, mentorship and the arts.
The reception kicks off the Ventana Sierra Advanced Writing Workshop which runs Friday-Sunday, June 14-16, at Western Nevada College. For more information on the workshop go here.
